Although Heroin Skateboards has been around since the 1990s, many skaters only really got to know the brand when curb skating experienced a huge resurgence during the pandemic.
Founder Mark “Fos” Foster was born and raised in England, where he also started Heroin Skateboards. Later, work took him to the United States, where he managed to grow the brand significantly. With success: today, Heroin Skateboards is distributed by Baker Boys, the distributor behind Baker, Deathwish, and Shake Junt, among others.
Fos, Egg shapes, and curbs
When you think of Heroin Skateboards, the first thing that comes to mind is Fos' raw, sometimes grotesque graphics and striking shaped decks. The iconic Egg shape stands out in particular: a wide, oval shape inspired by an American football, straight out of the 90s. A shape that has made a complete comeback, and not without reason.
Around the time of the pandemic, many older skaters took up skateboarding again, driven by nostalgia for their early years. At the same time, a preference emerged for a low-risk, high-reward way of skating: slappies. Curb skating started out as a way to practice grinds and slides outside the bowl and vert ramp, and requires a completely different technique than rail or ledge skateboarding.
The Egg shape complements this perfectly. The deck is wide in the middle for stability and comfort, but tapers at the nose and tail for control during tricks, slides, and a lower weight. Thanks in part to Heroin Skateboards and riders like Ira (also known as Curb Killer), curb skating has grown into a full-fledged discipline with its own identity.
Other shapes
In addition to Egg shapes, Heroin also offers popsicles and various pro models, including shapes by Swampy and Dead Dave. And if your setup isn't complete yet, combine your deck with Snot Wheels, Fos' wheel brand, and add a set of Heroin or Snot rails to tackle any curb in the world.
Although Heroin Skateboards is often associated with curb skating and the Egg shape, the decks are not limited to one style. Riders such as Dalton Dern, a classic street skater who prefers rails and stairs, show that Heroin is also perfectly suited for street skating in its purest form. The brand offers something unique for every type of skater.
