Girl Skateboards was founded in 1993 in Torrance, California, by Mike Carroll and Rick Howard, alongside Megan Baltimore and Spike Jonze. In the years that followed, Girl grew into one of the most influential brands ever, thanks in no small part to iconic videos like Goldfish, Mouse, Yeah Right! and Pretty Sweet.
The team has always been Girl's biggest strength. From Eric Koston and Guy Mariano to Mike Mo Capaldi, Sean Malto, Cory Kennedy, and current riders like Simon Bannerot and Breana Geering: skaters who've shaped the brand's style just as much as the brand has shaped theirs.
Decks
When it comes to shapes, Girl (and Chocolate, along with the rest of the Crailtap family) use their own G-codes: every shape gets a unique number like G027 or G052, followed by exact specs for length, width, wheelbase, and the shape of the nose and tail. That way you know exactly what pop, concave, and shape you're getting, no matter which graphic is on top.
Besides the standard popsicle shapes, Girl also offers the Twin Tip, Crailtap's first truly symmetrical, non-directional shape. There's no designated front or back: the nose and tail are identical, sized somewhere between a typical nose and tail.
Girl also has a few recognizable old-school shapes in the lineup. The Couch (G048) is a fully functional shape from the early '90s, with a short wheelbase, football nose, wide rails, and a square tail: built to chill on as much as to skate. The Loveseat (G055) is a variation on that: Simon Bannerot asked for a 9" version of the Couch, and that's how this narrower, equally comfortable shape was born.
