Chocolate Skateboards at Skatestore
Chocolate Skateboards was founded in April 1994 in Torrance, California, as Girl Skateboards' sister brand, by Mike Carroll, Rick Howard, Megan Baltimore, and Spike Jonze. It came about simply because the Girl team had outgrown the tour van: rather than squeezing even more skaters onto Girl's roster, a new wave of talent got its own brand. Chocolate has since built its own reputation through videos like Las Nueve Vidas De Paco, The Chocolate Tour, and Hot Chocolate, alongside the distinctive, illustration-based graphics of artist Evan Hecox.
The team has always been Chocolate's heart. From Gino Iannucci and Chico Brenes to Marc Johnson and Kenny Anderson, to current riders like Carl Aikens and Erik Herrera: skaters chosen for how they skate, not for their followers.
Decks
Just like Girl, Chocolate (along with the rest of the Crailtap family) uses its own G-codes: every shape gets a unique number like G008, G027, or G039, followed by exact specs for length, width, wheelbase, and the shape of the nose and tail. That way you know exactly what pop, concave, and shape you're getting, no matter which graphic is on top. Chocolate decks generally ride like a stable, classic popsicle shape, with a rounded to slightly tapered nose and tail that are great for ledges, rails, and slides.
