Baker Skateboards – Bake and destroy
Founded in 1999 by Andrew Reynolds – also known as The Boss – Baker Skateboards has become one of the most influential brands in skateboarding history. After his time at Tony Hawk’s Birdhouse brand, Reynolds decided to go his own way. Not to go the safest or most commercial route, but to build a brand that revolves around friendship and raw skateboarding culture.
Where many brands at the time made clean, stylized videos, Baker went the other way: unfiltered and chaotic. Baker videos like Baker 2G, Baker 3 and Baker has a Deathwish are not only a showcase of heavy tricks, but also a glimpse into the lives of the skaters – parties, falls, noise and everything in between.
Over the years, Baker has built one of the strongest teams skateboarding has ever seen, with names like Tristan “T-Funk” Funkhouser, Rowan Zorilla, Riley Hawk, Sammy Baca, Dustin Dollin, Tyson Peterson, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Antwuan Dixon, Terry Kennedy, Elissa Steamer, Jim Greco – and the list continues to grow.
Baker is part of Bakerboys Distribution, along with Deathwish, Heroin and Shake Junt. Baker decks are produced by BBS in Mexico. Unique to Baker is that you can choose between different concaves – mellow or steep – and for skaters looking for something different, there is the B2 shape: with more concave and a fuller, squarer nose and tail.
What makes the decks so visually strong are the graphics. Many designs come from artists and team members like Neckface, Mike Gigliotti and Spanky, who perfectly capture Baker’s recognizable and often absurd style. There is no shortage of staples either: the Brand Logo Deck is one of the most recognizable deck graphics ever, and just as stylish on a t-shirt, hoodie, or cap!
In short, Baker Skateboards is a brand as raw, real and authentic as it gets. Everything about Baker breathes skateboarding – from the graphics to the team to the mentality.
